CEN and CENELEC welcome the European Wind Power Action Plan, released today 24 October 2023 by the European Commission, and are ready to collaborate towards ensuring that Europe maintains a leadership position in wind energy.
The Plan, announced last month by the Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during her State of the European Union speech, highlights the significant role of wind power in securing supply of renewable energy across Europe.
The package is expected to unlock European wind power by accelerate permitting, streamline auction processes, and focus on skills, access to finance and stable supply chains.
Historically, the European wind sector has been an innovative leader thanks to the knowledge and resources put aside for development of technology and standards. Standardization shapes the playing field and market conditions for European companies within EU as well as internationally.
Under the remits of the High-Level Forum on European Standardization (HLF), several work streams have been set down to offer input on the direction of standardization in Europe. In close collaboration with European stakeholders within wind power and standardization, CENELEC and Danish Standards are organizing an online seminar that will take place on 13 November from 13.30 to 15.00. The working group has outlined some of the key opportunities and challenges that the wind sector is facing and how standardization can address them.
The webinar will have two panel discussions, the first with a particular focus on how standards can support an effective roll out in the European market. The second panel will dive into the recent sustainability developments of the sector and the role of international and European standardization. The results of the discussion will serve as input for the Commission ahead of the next meeting in the High-Level Forum on European Standardization.
