The 2024 plenary meeting of the Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance (SCSC) of APEC was held on February 24-25 in Peru, and CNIS appointed representatives to attend the meeting.
The Asia-Pacific region is an economic area with the most vigor and vitality in the globe. The APEC/SCSC aims to reduce the technical barriers to trade and enhance market access in the region.
At the meeting, the Committee on Trade and Investment (CTI) reported the latest work, and the APEC Secretariat introduced the status of APEC project funds. Also, economic bodies and international and regional organizations reported work progress in multiple fields including trade facilitation, harmonized international standards, best practices of regulation, construction of technical infrastructure, food and product safety, interaction with ISO, IEC, ASTM and stakeholders.
Experts from Sub-institute of Service Standardization (Research Center of Government Operation Support Standardization), CNIS, introduced the proposals for consumer protection at the meeting, and exchanged views with representatives from APEC economies such as Thailand, Australia, Malaysia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China.
The attendance at the meeting has promoted CNIS' research achievements, raised the level of active involvement in the Asia-Pacific region, and further enhanced the capability for international standardization work.
