The exchange meeting on standardization of Chinese and South African traditional medicine was jointly held by CNIS and University of the Western Cape (UWC) on August 17.
The meeting was addressed by Shen Long, Minister-Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa, Li Dongfang, Researcher of State Administration for Market Regulation, Li Aixian, Vice President of CNIS, Matlhale Peter, Senior Manager of South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), and Fatimah Barden, Chairperson of Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA).
The meeting was presided over by Prof. Ma Xuesheng, Director of School of Natural Medicine, UWC, and concluded by Fu Qiang, Director of Standardization Evaluation Sub-institute of CNIS, who expressed his gratitude to all participants. Scholars and officers from the two countries carried out in-depth discussion on standardization cooperation in the globe, especially BRICS countries, ISO international strategy of SABS, status quo and trends of ISO standardization for traditional medicine, current situation and challenges of standardization of South African traditional medicine, promoting effect of standardization on the development of traditional medicine industry, etc.
2023 marks the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and South Africa. On the occasion of the eve of BRICS Summit 2023, the meeting is designed to promote tthe bilateral cooperation on standardization of traditional medicine, deepen the partnership of BRICS, and benefit the people in China and South Africa.
Seizing this opportunity, CNIS will work together with universities, research institutes and enterprises in South Africa to conduct exchange and promotion of standardization for the Belt and Road Initiative, further carry out cooperation in traditional medicine and other aspects, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
