SAC/TC 207 on environmental management holds its plenary meeting

On January 12, 2023, the online annual plenary meeting of SAC/TC 207, Environmental management, was held by the Resource and Environmental Sub-institute of CNIS, which undertakes the secretariat of SAC/TC 207.

The meeting was attended by more than 70 representatives from Standards Technical Management Department of State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), Science and Technology Development Department of Ministry of Natural Resources, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES), etc.

Wang Junwei, a director from the Standards Technical Management, SAMR, highlighted several aspects for the committee to implement the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the National Standardization Development Outline. The aspects include optimizing standards system, focusing on key areas and self-improvement, and vigorously participating in international standardization work.

The committee should enhance communication with multiple parties, make standards play a leading role in ecological advancement and achieving the goals of carbon peak & neutrality, and boost China's environmental management, said Wu Fengchang, Member of SAC/TC 207 and Academician of CRAES.

At the meeting, the secretariat summarized the work in 2022 by introducing assessment results, the development and revision of national standards, work as the counterpart of ISO/TC 207, Environmental management, and its management. After the work plan for 2023 was presented, sub-committees and working groups under SAC/TC 207 summarized their domestic and international work. Experts from the Resource and Environmental Sub-institute of CNIS made keynote speeches on "the Domestic and Overseas Standardization Work of Carbon Emission Management" and "the Domestic and Overseas Standardization Work of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG)".

To expand influence, the technical committee will establish a platform for the standardization work on environmental management. More researches will be carried out to optimize standards system on environmental management and improve research capability to realize carbon peak & neutrality goals. More effort will be put into areas like standards transformation, standards development, standards implementation, standards market, etc., to support environmental management. Also, the committee will enhance international standardization talent cultivation, and encourage Chinese experts to participate in international standardization work.
