Two national technical committees for metrology established
Date: 2022-05-23    Source:CNIS

On the commemoration meeting of the World Metrology Day on May 20, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) officially announced the establishment of two national technical committees for digital metrology and artificial intelligence (AI) metrology, the secretariats of which are undertaken by the National Institute of Metrology and the Beijing Institution of Aerospace Metrology and Testing Technology separately.

Digital technologies are widely applied in many fields. According to the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML), the theme of this year's World Metrology Day is "Metrology in the Digital Era". As the core component of the National Quality Infrastructure (NQI), metrology is about measuring and its application. People are working on developing and verifying various complex advanced measuring technologies, in order to support the development of digital economy.

The transition to digitalization in the field of metrology consists of two aspects: first, the digitalization of traditional measuring technology, method and management; second, developing appropriate measuring methods for other digitalized industries.

The two technical committees will support the innovation and development of China's data and AI industry. Also, they will promote the creation and application of digital measuring tools and intelligent measuring tools to set up reference data and cognitive standard. Experts will be gathered to research on metrology issues, draft relevant technical specifications, and improve the quality of relevant standards. It is believed that the reliability and consistency of intelligent assessment method will be achieved, by standardizing the specification of data & AI and uniforming digital measuring units.

Metrology quantitatively describes the world, which is the foundation of human's future development. Establishing a complete theoretical and technological system for digital measuring and AI measuring not only helps us better understand the world, but also supports the robust development of China's digital economy.
