CNIS Vice-President Li Zhiping elected Vice-Chairman of oriGIn

The Organization for an International Geographical Indications Network (oriGIn) convened the 2021 Biennial Meeting virtually from November 23 to 24.

More than 200 representatives from 35 countries, including experts from Food and Agriculture Sub-institute of CNIS attended the meeting. Attendees settled the working plan and developing strategy of oriGIn on November 23. Also, Li Zhiping, Vice-President of CNIS, was elected the Vice-Chairman of oriGIn, on behalf of Asia.

An international forum on global latest trends of geographical indication was held on November 24. Experts from Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), European Patent Office (EPO), Ministry of Commerce of China, etc., shared their opinions on the innovation and protection of geographical indication development, international cooperation, bilateral and multilateral agreements.

CINS has been engaging in many oriGIn's activities, since CNIS joined the organization in 2010 and held the secretariat of oriGIn in China. CNIS is committed to building a communication platform for Chinese members, and offering advanced production, management, protection and operation cases. Further efforts will be made to expand the cooperation with oriGIn.

Geographical indications (GIs) mark the source of products, whose quality are often determined by natural or humanity factors of corresponding area. oriGIn is a non-for-profit Non-Governmental Organization based in Geneva, which aims to promote and regulate the development of GIs all over the world.
