Promoting standardization of sustainable cities

With the theme of "Digital City Led by Standards", International Conference on Standardization of Sustainable Development and the 2020 plenary meeting of International Smart Sustainable City Club (ISSCC) was held in Hangzhou, Southeast China's Zhejiang province on December 17, 2020. Representatives from ISSCC member cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Chongqing and other Chinese cities attended the meeting on site and more than 40 international representatives from overseas member cities and experts participated in the event online. 

The first session was chaired by CNIS Research Fellow Xing Liqiang. Dr. Bernard Gindroz, Chairperson of ISO/TC 268 and ISSCC, Wang Zhuangwu, Deputy Director General of Zhejiang Administration for Market Regulation, Lao Xinxiang, Deputy Secretary-General of Hangzhou Municipal Government, and Teng Yong, Vice-Chairman of the CPPCC Hangzhou Municipal, delivered welcome speeches and spoke highly of ISSCC in pursuing UN SDGs and promoting the development of relevant national and international standards. 

Mr. Michael Mulquin, Chairperson of the Smart City System Committee of IEC, Dr. Zhou Yicheng from Japanese standardization organization, and Qi Tongjun from Hangzhou Bureau of Data Resources Management delivered keynote speeches. Tang Wanjin, Vice President of CNIS and Secretary General of SAC/TC 567 on sustainable urban development, introduced latest progress in standardization work in the area and confirmed that CNIS and SAC/TC 567 will continue to provide support for ISSCC. Then ISSCC awarded membership certificates. 

Dr. Yang Feng from CNIS presided over the ISSCC plenary meeting held in the afternoon at the same day. Shao Xinhua, Secretary General of ISSCC, reported the work of the club this year to all members. ISSCC now has 38 members, who have been active in promoting the implementation of international standards on sustainable urban development. 

Then representatives from member cities and institutes including Huawei shared their insight and experience in organizing international standards pilot projects, establishing urban communication and cooperation platforms and promoting industrial cooperation among cities in China and abroad.
