ISO 29991:2020, Language-learning services - Requirements, was published on September 25, 2020, which was developed by a working group led by experts from the Sub-institute of Service Standardization of CNIS. It is the first revised version of ISO 29991, which was published in 2014 with the major contribution of China.

The document specifies the design, assessment and publicity of language-learning services, language-learning resources and accessibility, language-learning environment, and information provided for customers. The new edition highlights the requirements for language-learning services through distance learning or blended learning, contributing Chinese wisdom and standardization solutions to the development of global education services under the pressure of COVID-19 pandemic.
