CNIS continues efforts to standardize energy management and energy savings
Date: 2020-07-16    Source:CNIS

The 5th plenary meeting of ISO/TC 301 on energy management and energy savings was held online on June 5, 2020. More than 60 representatives from 21 countries including China, the U.S., Germany, the U.K., France, Finland, India and Japan and liaison organizations attended the event.

Attendees heard the progress reports from the ISO Central Secretariat, technical committee (TC) secretariat, President's advisory group, some working groups and expert panels. They discussed and reached decisions on international standards and technical specifications under development and review, and on the work plan of the TC for the future.

CNIS, as China's technical counterpart of ISO/TC 301, organized Chinese experts to participate in the meeting, with the approval of State Administration for Market Regulation and Standardization Administration of China (SAC). Dr. Liu Meng from CNIS was appointed Convenor of an ad hoc group known as ISO/TC 301/AHG 8, which is responsible for conducting technical evaluation of eight international standards related to energy performance and energy savings and providing advice on improving relevant standards system. This working group was set up under the resolution approved in this meeting.

With the approval of ISO Technical Management Board, ISO/TC 242 on energy management and ISO/TC 257 on energy savings were merged in February 2016 to form ISO/TC 301, whose secretariat was jointly held by ANSI and SAC, respectively national standards bodies of the U.S. and China. The technical committee currently has 66 participating members and 20 observing members. It has 18 international standards published and 8 under development. China is leading the efforts in the development of 3 such standards.

CNIS has undertaken the twinned secretariat and Vice-Chair of ISO/TC 301 since 2016, contributing greatly to Chinese and international standardization work in the area. It has led the development of more than 40 national standards for energy management system and energy savings evaluation, as well as 2 relevant international standards. As energy management and savings standards have attracted increasing attention from across the world due to their key role in improving energy performance and enterprise competitiveness, CNIS's contribution to the area will be a strong support for the implementation of the national energy conservation policy.
