The 12th plenary meeting of ISO/TC 282/SC 2 on water reuse in urban areas was held online on June 11, 2020. Forty representatives from China, Canada, Israel, Japan, France, Portugal, the U.S., Singapore and Iran and liaison organizations attended the event.

Attendees heard the progress reports from the secretariat and some working groups of the subcommittee, and discussed and reached decisions on the work plan for the future and four international standards in such areas as the design of water reuse system, safety evaluation of reclaimed water, as well as landfill leachate treatment and reuse.

With the approval of International Cooperation Department of State Administration for Market Regulation, CNIS, as China's technical counterpart of ISO/TC 282/SC 2, participated in the whole meeting, in particular in the discussion on ISO/WD 24297, Guidelines for treatment and reuse of leachate from municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration plant. The standard developed under the joint leadership of CNIS fills the gap in the area and will lay a solid foundation for upgrading power generation technology from waste incineration in China.

Besides, representatives from Shenzhen Oceanpower Co., Ltd. and China Water Environment Group reported on the new work item proposals respectively regarding UV disinfection system design in sewage plant and underground sewage plant design and management. The next plenary meeting is scheduled to take place in November.
