Standards contribute to production resumption amid COVID-19 outbreak
Date: 2020-04-27    Source:CNIS

The Resources and Environment Research Branch of China National Institute of Standardization (CNIS) has made active responses to epidemic control of enterprises and related institutions since the outbreak of COVID-19 and provided practical support for production resumption.

Developing related standards

The Resources and Environment Research Branch of CNIS has organized the development of a series of association standards for the prevention and control of COVID-19, in joint efforts with China Society of Technology Economics and Shangdong Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. Amongst them, T/CSTE 0001-2020, Guidelines for prevention, control and management of novel coronavirus pneumonia is one of the earliest contributions of Chinese standards community to the epidemic control.

Adjusting the implementation process of mandatory standards

Thirteen mandatory national standards for product energy and water efficiency developed by the Resources and Environment Research Branch in 2019 are due to come into effect on May 1 and July 1, 2020.

However, it is difficult for related enterprises and institutions to switch to those standards in due time. On receiving the feedback, Management Centre of Energy Efficiency Labeling of CNIS conducted a survey on some 100 enterprises. In consideration of survey results, the Resources and Environment Research Branch, industry associations and key enterprises jointly submitted the proposal to postpone the effective date of those standards, which was finally approved by the State Administration for Market Regulation. The effort not only helps largely prevent economic losses due to inventory cost, but also reduces product quality control risk caused by technological under-preparedness.

Online lectures on national standards

The Resources and Environment Research Branch in collaboration with Shandong Gaozhi Standardization Research Institute have put on a series of online lectures on national standards and invited experts to interpret part of national standards published in 2019 and related policies. They will explain in detail test methods and difficult points in standards and prepare producers and testing institutions for effective implementation of standards during production resumption under the pressure of COVID-19.
