About CNIS

China National Institute of Standardization (CNIS), directly affiliated to State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), is a non-profit research institute dedicated to fundamental, general and comprehensive standardization research and services. 

Focusing on supporting the high-quality development of Chinas economy and society, CNIS conducts research on standardization policies and regulations, development strategies, theoretical methodologies, and standard systems. It undertakes standardization research in relevant fields, as well as the development, revision, and promotion of standards. In addition, CNIS actively engages in international cooperation and exchanges in standardization. CNIS is responsible for scientific experiments, validation, testing, evaluation, certification, and the dissemination and application of research results. It undertakes theoretical and applied research on standardization policies, technical committees management, and projects evaluation, and carries out research on standardization statistical analysis and standard archives management. 

CNIS is responsible for the development of the National Library of Standards, standard information resources, and the national standard information platform, providing standard information services and support for the promotion and application of standards. It also serves as the secretariats of national technical committees for standardization in relevant fields, and undertakes national mirror committees for technical committees of international standardization organizations. CNIS supports the work related to standard management and TBT (Technical Barriers to Trade) research for SAMR. CNIS undertakes research on government operations support standardization, energy efficiency and water efficiency labeling, standardization pilot programs, and standardization as an academic discipline.
