Date: 2018-11-20

The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) wishes to congratulate Colin Clark and Tony Capel for being selected to fill key leadership positions within the International Electrotechnical Commission (link is external). They were elected at IEC's 2018 General Meeting last week in Busan, Korea.

Mr. Clark, the Chief Technical Officer of Brookfield Renewable (link is external) and vice-chair of SCC's Council, was elected to the IEC Council Board (link is external). He has nearly 40 years of experience in the electric power generation, transmission and distribution sectors. His work experience with IEC includes serving as the Vice-President of the Canadian National Committee to IEC (CANC/IEC) Council and Canada's member on the IEC Council Board Task Force responsible for developing the IEC Masterplan implementation plan.

Mr. Capel, owner and President of Comgate Engineering Limited (link is external), was elected to IEC's Standardization Management Board. Through his extensive career of more than 40 years as a professional engineer, Mr. Capel has gained extensive experience and knowledge in various standardization topics, specializing in data communications, data security and information technology. He also chairs the SCC's Technical Management Coordination Committee, and is a member of the CANC-IEC Policy Committee. He chairs SCC's mirror committees to IEC/SC65C Industrial networks, IEC/SC65A Systems aspects and is a member of several other mirror committees, including the mirror to ISO/IEC JTC1.

International leadership is one of SCC's key strategic objectives. By taking on these roles with global standardization bodies, leaders like Mr. Capel and Mr. Clark help ensure that Canada has a strong voice on the international stage.
