Expert of CNIS attends the 28th ARSO General Assembly

African Organization for Standardization (ARSO) held the 28th ARSO General Assembly recently in hybrid forms. The Chinese delegation attended the assembly virtually, which was led by Guo Chenguang, Deputy Director-General of Standards Innovative Management Department, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) on behalf of Standardization Administration of China (SAC). Dr. Li Jing from National Library of Standards of CNIS, joined the delegation on behalf of CNIS.

To promote understanding and enhance communication between China and Africa, China has vigorously participated in activities held by ARSO since 2019, including the African Day of Standardization and themed webinars. With deepened comprehension and trust, the two parties are improving the bilateral dialogue mechanism for standards and enhancing cooperation in various fields.

During the assembly, the Chinese delegation introduced Dr. Wang Decheng, the nominated candidate for ISO President, to the attendees. Also, a consensus was reached on carrying out cooperation in six aspects, including transportation infrastructure, tools and machinery for agriculture and forest, small power technology, mining and ore dressing, solar thermal system and facilities, and traditional African medicine, which are determined by Tian Shihong, Vice-Minister of SAMR and Administrator of SAC, and Hermogene Nsengimana, the Secretary-General of ARSO.

As a branch of CNIS, the National Library of Standards has been supporting the standardization work of SAC and participating in the bilateral standardization cooperation between China and ARSO since 2019. The library is responsible for the contact with the secretariat of ARSO and the relevant work.

With 42 members, the ARSO is a regional organization to harmonize African standards to reduce technical barriers of trade. In addition to members of ARSO, the General Assembly was attended by representatives from national standardization bodies, standardization associations and international & regional organizations such as the African Union, GSO, ISO, IEC, CEN, BSI, ANSI, ASTM International, etc.
