The 7th plenary meeting of ISO/TC 301 held

The 7th plenary meeting of ISO/TC 301 on energy management and energy savings was held online on June 25, attracting more than 40 representatives from over 19 countries and liaison organizations. Branch of Resource and Environment of CNIS, as the technical counterpart of ISO/TC 301 in China, organized experts from China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Datang Environment Industry Group Co., Ltd., and China Classification Society Certification Company (CCSC) to attend the event.

Attendees heard the progress report of ISO central secretariat, secretariat of ISO/TC 301, Chair's advisory group, several working groups and expert groups, and discussed the standards that are under development and standard programmes to be proposed. They also agreed on the review conclusions of several international standards and technical specifications as well as the work plan of the committee.

The meeting announced the establishment of an ad hoc expert group and appointed CNIS expert as the convener, who would lead the research on new standard programme in respect of fossil-fueled power plants and submit new international standards proposals in the area.

Energy management and energy saving standards are crucial for enterprises to improve energy efficiency, reduce energy consumption and boost competitiveness, attracting widespread attention from across the world. Approved by ISO Technical Management Bureau, ISO/TC 242 on energy management and ISO/TC 257 on energy savings were merged to form ISO/TC 301 in February 2016. It now has 67 members and 20 observers, with 20 international standards published (including 3 spearheaded by Chinese experts) and 4 under development.

CNIS is a veteran in standardization work in the area. Up to now, it has led the development of more than 40 national standards on energy management system and energy saving assessment, and 2 international standards, and converted 5 ISO standards, including ISO 50001.
