The Data and Knowledge Engineering Laboratory (DKE) evolved from earlier laboratories such as the “CAD Conformance Testing Laboratory” and “Data Quality and Data Governance Laboratory”, making it one of the earliest established laboratories at CNIS. Currently, the laboratory focuses on data, information, knowledge, and intelligence in industries such as smart manufacturing, e-commerce, and e-government. With an emphasis on data quality and knowledge engineering, it conducts foundational research on standardization and standards conformance testing, centered on the construction of digital, informational, knowledge-based, and intelligent systems.
The Laboratory comprises two functional areas: a Data Center and a Data Testing and Analysis Zone, providing a robust experimental technology platform for the development of various research directions:
1. Data Center: Serves as the foundational platform for the Laboratory’s work, including data workstations, servers, network environments, and related specialized testing platforms and tools. To date, it has established basic data quality testing capabilities, including:
- A standard database for machine-interpretable semantic content in smart manufacturing
- A universal XML semantic information extraction and conformance testing system
- A dynamic management and maintenance system for standards systems in digital applications
- An information classification code data consistency comparison testing system
- A data exchange format/XML message standard conformance testing system
2. Data Testing and Analysis Zone: Utilizes laboratory testing systems to conduct standards conformance testing for application software in various industries.
Main Research Areas
- Data Quality Research: Based on ISO 8000 on data quality, focuses on industrial data such as product data, manufacturing management data, manufacturing process data, and master data. Conducts research on testing technologies for data consistency, completeness, accuracy, and traceability.
- Knowledge Engineering Research: Addresses industry applications by researching intelligent identification, extraction, storage, sending and quality testing technologies for product design (including design object knowledge and design rationale knowledge), manufacturing processes, and product faults. Conducts research on patent informatics/patent navigation technologies based on natural language processing, including macro-analysis of patent information and micro-knowledge extraction from patents. Develops corpora construction and related evaluation systems for intelligent application technologies.
- Standard Digitalization Research: Focuses on the digital transformation of smart manufacturing data and knowledge standards. Centers on the DIKW model (Data, Information, Knowledge, Wisdom) in smart manufacturing, researching the digital, networked, and intelligent transformation of standards. Includes converting existing file format standards into machine-readable format standard databases and researching future digital standards. Also covers application management research for standard digitalization, knowledgeization, and intellectualization, as well as theoretical and methodological research on the transformation of standard systems in the digital economy era.
- Internet Electronic Data Evidence Research: Conducts research on the collection, storage, exchange, management, and standards conformance testing of internet electronic data evidence.
- Capability Maturity Evaluation Research: Focuses on capability maturity evaluation for knowledge management, intellectual property management, innovation management, standard systems, industrial data governance, digital twins, and data quality.
