National Key Laboratories for Market Regulation

Research Experimental Platform of Physical Environment Ergonomics

The Research Experimental Platform of Physical Environment Ergonomics primarily studies the impact of environmental factors—such as temperature, humidity, noise and vibration, lighting, color, and odors—on human comfort and work performance in living and working environments. It also addresses product safety in extreme environments and the design of workspaces and facilities. Key research areas include ergonomic evaluation technologies for thermal, visual, and acoustic environments, with the aim of establishing corresponding evaluation index systems. The platform develops testing and evaluation methods and technical standards for environmental ergonomics, providing scientific data and evidence to enhance environmental comfort and improve quality of life.

The Research Experimental Platform of Physical Environment Ergonomics consists of three research units: Thermal Environment Ergonomics Research, Display and Lighting Ergonomics Research, and Acoustic Environment Ergonomics Research. It includes four specialized laboratories: Thermal Ergonomics Laboratory, Visual Ergonomics Laboratory (Display), Visual Ergonomics Laboratory (Lighting), and Auditory Ergonomics Laboratory.

Main Research Areas

◆ Thermal Environment Ergonomics Research:

Investigates the impact of thermal environmental factors (temperature, humidity, air velocity, etc.) on human thermal comfort and work performance. Studies heat exchange characteristics between the human body and the environment, thermal balance mechanisms, and methods for measuring and evaluating human thermal sensation. Examines changes in physiological indicators in different thermal environments and activity levels to develop human thermal comfort evaluation models. Formulates testing methods and technical specifications for thermal environment ergonomics.

◆ Lighting Environment Ergonomics Research:

Focuses on key parameters affecting visual quality in lighting environments, including luminance, illuminance, spectrum, lighting levels, visual fatigue, brightness distribution in the visual field, light color, and color rendering of light sources. Studies the impact of lighting products and visual display terminals on visual comfort and work efficiency, along with corresponding testing and evaluation methods. Researches the effects of lighting environments in offices, homes, and other specific settings on human health, psychological well-being, and overall atmosphere, providing scientific data and technical support for designing rational visual environments and enhancing visual comfort and satisfaction.

◆ Acoustic Environment Ergonomics Research:

Targets the auditory characteristics of different age groups, studying evaluation technologies for sound quality of various noises, such as household appliance noise, workplace noise, and living environment noise. Analyzes and identifies key factors influencing subjective perception of noise, and researches related sound quality control strategies and implementation methods. Provides scientific data for targeted improvements in noise sound quality, effectively reducing discomfort for users in acoustic environments and enhancing their quality of life.
