Basic Research Experimental Platform of Human Characteristics and Human Factors

The Basic Research Experimental Platform of Human Characteristics and Human Factors addresses the needs of various national economic industries for human characteristics data. It conducts research on human morphology, strength, vision, hearing, touch, thermal perception, and other human characteristics, as well as work capacity and behavioral preferences. It establishes parameter index systems for human characteristics and standardized measurement methods. The platform collects and studies human characteristics data of the Chinese population to understand the overall status and distribution characteristics of physical traits and work capabilities across different demographic groups. It also researches applied technologies for human modeling, product sizing, product ergonomic compatibility analysis, and occupational health and safety assessments. Additionally, it studies ergonomic parameter measurement, statistical methods, and uncertainty evaluation methods, establishing scientific, reasonable, and highly consistent standardized measurement and acquisition techniques. This provides foundational data support for the development of human factors and ergonomics and offers ergonomic technology and scientific data support for human-centered product and environmental design.

 

The Basic Research Experimental Platform of Human Characteristics and Human Factors includes three research units: Human Physical Characteristics Research, Human Perceptual Characteristics Research, and Human Factors and Ergonomics Metrology Research. It comprises four specialized laboratories: Anthropometry Laboratory, Biomechanics Laboratory, Cognitive Ergonomics Laboratory, and Work Ergonomics Laboratory.

 

Main Research Areas

 

◆ Human Physical Characteristics Research:

Focuses on body dimension measurement studies, biomechanical characteristics research, and human modeling. It establishes definitions and measurement conditions for human characteristic parameters, develops scientific and highly consistent standardized measurement techniques, and applies standardized methods to collect human characteristic data of the Chinese population. This comprehensive approach captures the overall status and distribution characteristics of Chinese human traits, providing scientific data support for research innovation and human-centered design.

 

◆ Human Perceptual Characteristics Research:

Concentrates on studying human characteristics such as vision, hearing, touch, and thermal perception. It establishes fundamental parameter index systems for various perceptual traits, investigates the overall status and distribution characteristics of visual, auditory, tactile, and thermal perceptions across different age groups, and builds databases to provide precise data support for meeting people’s needs for a better life.

 

◆ Human Factors and Ergonomics Metrology Research:

Explores theories of error distribution, error transmission, and error control in ergonomic parameter measurements. It addresses experimental design for precision and statistical evaluation methods, as well as sources of uncertainty and uncertainty evaluation methods. This research aims to identify and effectively control major errors introduced during ergonomic measurements, assess the repeatability, reproducibility, and uncertainty of measurement results, and establish criteria for laboratory quality control and proficiency testing. It also develops methods for uncertainty evaluation of various measurement indicators, providing references for the representation and use of ergonomic measurement results. Additionally, it studies ergonomic metrology comparisons, measurement audits, and interim checks within laboratories.
