The Water Efficiency Laboratory for Energy-Using Products (hereinafter referred to as the Laboratory) conducts research on standards, testing technologies, testing methods, and ultra-high-efficiency water-saving products for water conservation, water usage efficiency, and water efficiency grades of water-using products. The Laboratory holds CNAS and CMA qualifications and possesses experimental research capabilities for energy and water efficiency of 21 types of water-using products, including faucets, toilets, showers, and showerheads. Additionally, the Laboratory is equipped with monitoring functions for water efficiency testing data, enabling real-time monitoring of internal laboratory’s testing processes, timely collection and analysis of testing data, and remote monitoring of external national energy and water efficiency laboratories. This ensures intelligent, transparent, and standardized monitoring and information management.
Main Research Areas
- Standards Development: Conducts extensive verification testing on water-saving products to provide authoritative, comprehensive, specific, and accurate data sources for determining indicators in standard. Carries out compliance verification research on water efficiency standards, conducts comparisons with indicators of advanced international standards, and develops standards for China’s water-saving products to improve standard levels and align with advanced international standards.
- Water Efficiency Labeling: Fully supports government-deployed water conservation efforts and the implementation of water efficiency labeling systems. Conducts research on the coordination between water efficiency and product performance of end-use water-using products, and studies measurement, testing, and verification methods for key indicators. Improves efficient utilization technology for water-using products in China and promotes comprehensive quality enhancement of end-use water-using products.
- Water Efficiency Leader Program: Supports the implementation of the government’s Water Efficiency Leader Program. Conducts research on advanced water-saving technologies and indicators for water-using products, providing a basis for the formulation and implementation of relevant rules and offering robust support for comprehensively promoting the construction of a conservation-oriented society in China.
- Promotion and Application of Water-Saving Technologies: Promotes the application of high-efficiency water-saving technologies and products. Conducts research in areas such as water efficiency performance detection technology for water-using products, develops efficient and convenient testing equipment, enhances water efficiency technology research, and provides technical services for the entire industry.
- Data Platform Construction: Conducts research on big data analysis technologies for energy and water efficiency standard compliance of end-use energy-using and water-using products, real-time testing monitoring technologies, etc. Builds smart supervision models, develops fully visual online supervision platforms, and forms replicable and promotable technical implementation solutions for networked monitoring platforms of energy and water efficiency testing laboratories. Achieves spatial information-based tracking of testing orders based on CNAS and CMA, supports resource and environmental control, traces testing personnel qualifications and capabilities, locates testing processes, and traces testing results. Ensures that energy and water efficiency standard testing processes and results are tamper-proof. Establishes and improves risk monitoring and smart supervision systems, enhances the precision and effectiveness of market supervision, and sets a benchmark for open, fair, and transparent testing in the inspection and testing industry.
- Testing Technology Research: Based on water efficiency standards, combined with domestic water usage standards, and referring to advanced international standards, conducts in-depth research on testing technologies to achieve standardization and scientific rigor in testing technologies, methods, standards, and equipment. Develops standard samples for core components such as toilet flush valves, flow controllers, tank fittings, and water purifier filter elements according to standards, improving the consistency of product water efficiency testing data and effectively promoting the implementation of labeling systems.
