ISO/IEC JTC 4 holds the first meeting

The first meeting of ISO/IEC JTC 4, Smart and sustainable cities and communities, was virtually held on March 18. More than 100 experts attended the meeting, who came from liaison organizations and countries, including China, France, the U.K., the U.S., Japan, South Korea, and Brazil.
CNIS serves as the domestic counterpart of ISO/IEC JTC 4. Dr. Yang Feng, an expert from the Sub-institute of Urban Sustainable Development of CNIS, organized over 20 Chinese experts from CNIS, CRRC Qingdao Sifang Rolling Stock Research Institute, China Electronics Standardization Institute, and relevant units to participate in the meeting.
During the meeting, experts from various countries had in-depth discussions on the organizational structure and work plan of ISO/IEC JTC 4. The phased work plan was officially approved at the meeting. Five sub-committees will be established in the first phase, including SC 1 on smart infrastructure, SC 2 on sustainable mobility and transportation, SC 3 on ICT and digitalization, SC 4 on system-related issues, and SC 5 on urban-related issues. The second phase is planned to commence in 2027. After the meeting, the organizational structure will be optimized based on feedback from all parties, and the voting process will be initiated.
Since the preparation for ISO/IEC JTC 4, CNIS has organized domestic experts to continuously participate in the discussions on the organizational structure, and put forward opinions and suggestions. CNIS will further organize relevant domestic units and experts to actively apply for undertaking related work and positions, promote the deep participation of relevant units in international standardization, and strive to make greater contributions to the international standardization of smart and sustainable cities and communities.
