UNEP delegation visits CNIS

05 25, 2026

Lei Hongpeng, Chief of the Mitigation Branch, Climate Change Division, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), led a delegation to visit CNIS on March 19.
Wang Kun, CNIS Party Secretary and President, and Li Zhiping, Vice President of CNIS, met with the delegation, and held a discussion and exchange on key topics such as the cooperation memorandum between the two parties, the construction of the global efficient refrigeration manufacturer platform, and the cooperation of the ninth Global Environment Facility (GEF) replenishment.
Lei Hongpeng introduced the strategic goals of UNEPs Climate Change Division in the field of climate change mitigation, the work status in related areas such as construction, refrigeration, and energy transition, as well as the relevant plans of GEF-9. He expressed his hope to continuously deepen cooperation with CNIS in areas such as coordinating green and low-carbon standards, jointly promoting South-South cooperation, as well as developing and promoting energy efficiency standards and guidelines. Through cooperation mechanisms such as the efficient refrigeration manufacturer platform, information exchange and experience sharing are expected to be promoted, facilitating practical actions and win-win cooperation.
President Wang Kun warmly welcomed the visit of UNEP. He pointed out that China has launched the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), with a chapter dedicated to the comprehensive green transformation of the economy and society. The plan is highly consistent with the core missions of UNEP in promoting global sustainable development and climate action. CNIS has been cooperating with UNEP for many years, and joining hands in global environmental governance and standardization development. In the future, CNIS will fully leverage its advantages in green and low-carbon standardization, integrate domestic and international industry resources, and continuously expand cooperation with UNEP.
The two parties reached a consensus on building a long-term cooperation mechanism, and capitalizing on existing and planned international cooperation mechanisms and platforms, further promoting the role of standardization in global environmental governance.
Relevant researchers and heads of the Sub-institute of Resource and Environment Standardization attended the meeting.
