ISO 9001, Quality management systems-Requirements, is one of the most widely used management system standards globally. The current version is ISO 9001:2015 (5th edition). The ISO Technical Committee on Quality Management and Quality Assurance (ISO/TC 176) is currently working on the 6th revision, which is expected to be released in 2026.
As the domestic technical counterpart to ISO/TC 176, CNIS has been closely tracking the progress of ISO 9001 and related standards development. Focusing on key revision areas and implementation impacts, CNIS has organized domestic experts through the National Standardization Technical Committee on Quality Management and Quality Assurance (SAC/TC 151) to conduct in-depth studies on key draft stages, including ISO/CD 9001 and ISO/DIS 9001. Chinas comments have been submitted in a timely manner, aiming to reflect Chinese practices and achievements in quality management in the new revision.
From January 26 to 30, Chinese representatives participated online as registered experts in ISO/TC 176/SC 2 meetings, where 1,634 comments received during the ISO/DIS 9001 voting stage were reviewed. The draft maintains alignment with the Harmonized Structure (HS), while a new Annex A is added to explain the structure, clauses, and terminology. Discussions in a recent meeting focused on the 10 clauses, with key topics including risk-based thinking, opportunity-based thinking, quality culture and ethical behavior, and documented information. The working group planned to hold five additional meetings between February and March 2026 to address Annex A, introduction, and unresolved comments, aiming to finalize ISO/FDIS 9001 by the end of March.
CNIS will initiate the revision of the national standard GB/T 19001, Quality management systems-Requirements, and will coordinate standards adoption, training, and enterprise implementation guidance, ensuring effective alignment between international standards and Chinas quality management practices, and supporting enterprises in smoothly upgrading their quality management systems.
