The Multilateral Roundtable on Energy Efficiency Standards and Labels, hosted by CLASP, was held in Beijing on April 8, 2026.

The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO), Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI), and National Electricity Conservation Program (PROCEL) in Brazil, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in India, the Energy Research Institute of National Development and Reform Commission and CNIS in China, Sequoia Climate Foundation, as well as the headquarters and Brazil & India project teams of CLASP, who exchanged views and conducted discussions on the global policies for energy conservation and emission reduction and the practical experience on standards and labels for electrical appliance energy efficiency.

Wang Kun, President of CNIS, delivered an opening address. Yun Zhenyu, Director and Research Fellow of the Division of Resources and Environment Standardization of CNIS, and Zeng Lei, China Program Director of CLASP, co-chaired the keynote presentation sessions, respectively.

Wang Kun pointed out that energy efficiency standards and labels play a vital role in green development, which are fundamental and universal institutional tools for helping countries implement initiatives on energy conservation and carbon reduction and improve overall global energy efficiency. He proposed that all parties advance international exchanges and practical cooperation on energy efficiency standards and labels, and promote their continuous improvement and upgrading. Leandro Pereira de Andrade, Director of Energy Information, Studies and Efficiency at Brazils Ministry of Mines and Energy, and Kamran Shaikh, Director at Indias Bureau of Energy Efficiency also delivered speeches successively.

After that, experts from China, Brazil and India presented special reports and conducted technical exchanges on national energy conservation policies, the development and implementation of energy efficiency standards and labels, as well as the current status and development trends of energy efficiency standards in the refrigeration sector.

All participants agreed that the event has established a high-level platform for cross-regional and multilateral cooperation. Policy exchanges, experience sharing and information communication have deepened mutual understanding and laid a solid foundation for in-depth cooperation in the energy efficiency field in the future.

Foreign representatives all expressed their expectation to set up a long-term exchange and mutual learning mechanism with Chinese institutions including CNIS and carry out practical cooperation projects on energy efficiency standards and labels in key areas such as refrigeration, working together to boost energy efficiency and accelerate the global transition to a green and low-carbon future.
