The final and award ceremony of the International Standardization Youth Star Competition 2025 were held in Qingdao on November 22 and 23. Guided by the ISO Central Secretariat and the Standardization Working Committee of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, the competition was co-hosted by the International Standardization Outstanding Contribution Award Foundation, CNIS, Qingdao Administration for Market Regulation, and Shandong Port Group Co., Ltd.
A total of 236 teams from 21 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) actively signed up for the competition, and ultimately 14 teams successfully entered the final. The competition followed the model of industry poses the questions, academia provides the solutions. Through on-site presentations and defenses, the teams from Civil Aviation Flight University of China, Research Institute of Highway of the Ministry of Transport, Southwest Jiaotong University, and Guangxi University won the championship respectively in four tracks of smart green ports, new energy batteries, short-range communication, and engineering construction.
During the competition, the 2025 ISOCAF Youth Ambassador Award was also revealed. Qiu Yunyi from China Jiliang University won the title of Youth Ambassador, and Zhang Ziyang from Qingdao University and Huang Jiahui from Civil Aviation Flight University of China obtained the honor of Youth Star.
At the award ceremony, Zhang Xiaogang, former President of ISO and the initiator of the International Standardization Outstanding Contribution Award Foundation, delivered a welcome speech. Li Zhiping, Vice President of CNIS, Zhang Yongyan, Director-General of Qingdao Administration for Market Regulation, and Xu Guowang, Senior Manager of Shandong Port Group and Chair of the Board of the Vocational Education Group, delivered speeches successively. Rachel Miller Prada, Capacity Building Project Manager of the ISO Central Secretariat, shared ISO’s practices and experience in capacity building.
During the event, experts and representatives including Wan Lei, Fellow and Chief Scientist of Short-range Wireless Communication of Huawei Technologies, Luo Jian, Director of the Enterprise Management Department of Shandong Port Group Co., Ltd., and Cheng Zhijun, Secretary-General of the Intelligent Construction Working Committee of China Association for Engineering Construction Standardization, gave special speeches focusing on their respective professional fields. Erik Vladimir Simi, a young standardization ambassador from Slovenia, shared his standardization story and demonstrated the youth power in standardization.
Since its establishment in 2023, the competition has been held for three consecutively years. It aims to cultivate the standardization awareness and thinking of the younger generation and enables them to contribute to the high-quality development of China through practice. In the future, CNIS will continue to support the development of the standardization discipline and knowledge systems, as well as the young standardization talent cultivation.
