CNIS expert wins the ISO Excellence Award

In June 2025, the ISO Central Secretariat and ISO/TC 268 for sustainable development of cities and communities awarded the ISO Excellence Award to Dr. Yang Feng from CNIS for his outstanding contribution to two ISO standards projects as the convenor of ISO/TC 268/TG 2, Collection of cities good practices and needs.

The ISO Excellence Award is the highest individual award established by ISO. It is the first time that ISO/TC 268 has conferred this honor on an expert who has played a key role in the international standardization work for urban sustainable development, fully demonstrating its high recognition of China's technical strength and international influence in this field.

The award is in recognition of Dr. Yang's 13 years of distinguished service to ISO/TC 268. He has led global cities' implementation of ISO/TC 268 standards and systematically gathered standardization needs and successful cases of cities and communities when he served as the convenor of ISO/TC 268/TG 2.

As the project leader, Dr. Yang has made pivotal contributions to ISO/TR 37112:2024, Sustainable cities and communities-Case studies in how smart city operating models support an effective public-health emergency response, and ISO 37113:2024, Sustainable cities and communities-Guidance for managing a public-health emergency response in smart city operating models.

The ISO Excellence Award is not only a full recognition of the professional and innovative ability of an expert from CNIS but also a strong affirmation of China's remarkable achievements in the international standardization work for urban sustainable development.

In the future, the expert team of CNIS will continue to delve into the international standardization research, further expand international cooperation, and strive to contribute Chinese solutions characterized by innovation, coordination, green development, openness, and sharing to the global urban sustainable development.
