The meeting on the APEC project of policies, standards, and best practices for recycled plastic for food contact was held in Beijing on July 16 and 17, 2025. It was attended by 68 participants, including representatives from 10 APEC member economies such as Indonesia, South Korea, U.S., Vietnam and China, as well as EU government representatives, experts, scholars, and technical and industrial professionals.
The meeting was hosted by CNIS, and presided over by Li Qiang, Deputy Director of the Sub-institute of Agriculture and Food Standardization. It was addressed by Wang Yuhan, Second-class Investigator of the Department of International Cooperation, SAMR, and Li Zhiping, Vice President of CNIS.
Wang Yuhan stated that the approval and implementation of the project is an important manifestation of translating the goals of the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040 into practicable, quantifiable and widely shareable green actions.
Li Zhiping pointed out that in the era of global sustainable development and green transformation, it is necessary to face new challenges in green development, seize new opportunities for the promotion and application of recycled plastic, and embark on a new journey of coordinately promoting green and low-carbon development in the Asia-Pacific region.
At the meeting, Li Qiang, also the project leader, shared the analysis results of the project questionnaire. Subsequently, 10 experts delivered speeches on topics such as regulatory policies, risk assessment progress, application paths and best practices related to recycled plastic for food contact.
CNIS has long been engaged in the research on quality and safety of food-related products. Taking this project as an opportunity, the Sub-institute of Agriculture and Food Standardization will further leverage the advantages of standardization, and fully promote the recycling and high-quality development of recycled plastic for food contact.
Through promoting regional technological collaborative innovation, the Sub-institute will contribute wisdom and strength to the sustainable development of recycled plastic for food contact in the Asia-Pacific region and even the world, helping the industry move towards a greener and more sustainable future.
